...and do it fearlessly!

Yes! You CAN share your faith without fear... and here's 5 ridiculously-easy steps to do so.

So let's "GO SPEL" it out together and do what Jesus called all of us to do!

Step #1 : Check your heart

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts.” - Psalms 139:23

Researchers have shown that we think more than 50,000 thoughts per day, of which more than half are negative!

So before we can share our faith with others, we must first ask God to help us take a candid inventory of where our hearts (and minds for that matter) really are in this present moment.

Heart-Check Inventory

Simply answer the following questions and be completely honest with yourself... that's the only way this will work. (Click here to take the FREE Heart-Check Inventory)

  1. Three things I value the most in my life.

  2. What am I doing about the things that matter most to me?

  3. Three things/ways my ______________ would use to describe me:

    1. God

    2. Parents/Guardians

    3. Best Friend

    4. Acquaintances (People you interact with often like friends at school, colleagues at work, etc.)

    5. Teachers/Coaches/Youth Pastors (non-family adults that play an active role in your life)

    6. Strangers (ie: Barista, Check-out clerk, person overhearing my conversation with friends when out in public)

    7. Poor/Less fortunate in my community

  4. Three of my biggest fears.

  5. Three things I want people to remember about me at the end of my life.

  6. Three goals for my future.

  7. What worries me most about the future?

  8. On a scale of 1(least) - 10(most), how much do I care what ______________ think about me?

    1. God

  9. Who and/or what defines who I am?

  10. Am I living true to myself?

  11. Do the following know that I am a Christian?

    1. God

Now that you've completed this first step, let's move on to the next one.

Step #2 : Identify your "Why"

“But in your hearts set Christ apart as holy (and acknowledge Him) as Lord. Always be ready to give a logical defense to anyone who asks you to account for the hope that is in you, but do it courteously and respectfully.” - 1 Peter 3:15

So here's the deal, we as human beings absolutely don't do anything unless we have a reason or motivation to do so.

Think about it...WHY do you brush your teeth each day?

If you're like me, I cannot stand the taste of "morning breath" and brushing my teeth is the first think I do when I get out of bed. Perhaps you brush your teeth because you will be embarrassed if someone tells you that you have bad breath. Of maybe you brush your teeth because when you were little, your mom put the fear of death in you if you didn't.

Whatever the reason, the point is that you have a reason!

With this is mind, you will not share your faith and the Gospel of Christ Jesus if you don't first identify your "Why".

So let's discover your "Why" by answering the following questions and the best way to find any answer is to first look to the Bible.

Why should I share the Gospel of Jesus with others?

  • Matthew 28:19–20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

  • John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

  • Romans 1:16: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”

With this is mind, you will never share your faith if you don't first identify your "why."

What’s in it for me?

  • Matthew 5:10-12: “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on My account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

  • Matthew 10:32: “So everyone who acknowledges Me before men, I also will acknowledge before My Father Who is in heaven.”

  • 1 Corinthians 1:18: “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

  • Colossians 3:1-4: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”

What happens if I don’t?

  • Matthew 10:33: “But whoever denies Me before men, I also will deny before My Father Who is in heaven.”

  • James 4:17: “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them”

Did you know that sharing your faith with others is a matter of life and death?

No? Well check out Revelation 21:8“But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Why is this my problem?

All of us have had this thought: "If other people are doing it - and would do so way better than I could - why do I need to? I’m not a pastor!" Well here's your answer:

  • 2 Corinthians 5:10: “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”

Step #3 : Now, identify your "Why not?"

“So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” - Matthew 10:32-33

Now we have to take the further and more revealing step of identifying our "why nots", or in other words...

What keeps me from doing it now?

Any of the following sound familiar... (then check out the Bible's response to it!)

I will get "cancelled" if I say anything about Jesus or my faith.

  • “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10

People with make fun of me.

  • “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.” Proverbs 29:25

I may lose friends if I talk about my faith.

  • “Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord.” Jeremiah 17:5

I am not a good speaker.

  • "But Moses pleaded with the Lord, 'O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.' Then the Lord asked Moses, 'Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the LORD?'" Exodus 4:10-11

I don’t know enough about the Gospel to share it. What if I can't answer someone's questions?

  • "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." James 1:5

I won’t get invited to parties/social events anymore.

  • "And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed? If anyone is ashamed of me and My message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when He returns in His glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels." Luke 9:25-26

My boss won't offer me opportunities that they may offer others.

  • “If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.” 1 Peter 4:14

Crazy, huh? There really IS an answer to all of our questions in the Word of God!

To finalize this step, you must simply answer this question (and it's counterparts below):

Do the following things testify that I am a follower of Christ Jesus? (Online Quiz here)

  1. My behavior?

  2. The things I say?

    1. Do I use cuss words?

    2. Do I gossip?

    3. Do I talk back to my parents?

    4. Do I judge others?

  3. How I dress?

  4. The activities I do? (in public AND behind closed doors).

  5. The people I hang out with?

  6. The things I watch? (YouTube, streaming, gaming, online, pictures, books, etc.)

  7. The things I listen to?

  8. The people/profiles I follow?

  9. The things I post?

"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Colossians 3:17

Step #4 : Reprioritize & Realign your values

“You shall have no other gods before Me.” - Exodus 20:3

Step #4 is where the rubber meets the road. So hang onto your panties, friends, and let's dig in!

First I need you to identify something (or someone) you are really passionate about. Something/one that you would eagerly (and effortlessly) bring-up in conversation. Something/one you would proudly and gladly defend to anyone that may disagree with you.

*Examples include: Favorite Team, Alma Mater/College, Singer, Athlete, Book, Influencer/Celebrity, Brand, Product, etc.

For me, it is no secret that I am a die-hard University of Alabama fan. I mean come on...my dog's name is Saban!

Once you have this thing or person in mind, answer the following:

  • Do you or would you proudly represent them with bumper stickers, attire, posters, reposts, etc.?

  • Where does this thing or person rank with the passion you have for Jesus?

    • Do you or would you eagerly bring JESUS up in a conversation and be ready and happy to defend Him?

    • Do you or would you proudly represent Him with bumper stickers, clothes, reposts, etc.?

  • Between the thing or person you selected and Jesus...

    • Which of the two has the greatest influence on the life you lead now?

    • Which of the two do you owe your life to?

    • Which of the two would fight for you?

    • Which of the two would die for you?

    • Which of the two has more to offer you?

  • Is it time to allow JESUS to take the rightful place in your heart?

    • What are you willing to do for Him?

    • What are you not willing to do for Him? Why?

Revealing, eh? Yeah, for me too!

Before moving on to Step #5, meditate on the following Truths:

Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Matthew 6:33: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." Matthew 6:24

Colossians 3:1-4: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”

Step #5 : Make a Plan...and do it!

"The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps." - Proverbs 16:9

This step separates the boys from the men.

In other words, completing Step #5 will determine if you are both ready and really serious about your spiritual growth and the calling God has put on all of us.

The plan itself is not hard. The doing it is what will reveal where your heart and priorities lie.

The Plan:

I. WHO: Select 1 person in each sphere of influence below to start talking about your faith and sharing the Gospel with:

  • Parent/Guardian

  • Best Friend

  • Acquaintance (Someone you interact with often like a friend at school, a colleague at work, etc.)

  • Teacher/Coach/Youth Pastor (A non-family adult that plays an active role in your life)

  • Stranger (ie: Barista, Check-out clerk, random person I encounter in a store.)

II. WHEN: Identify the opportunities you have to share your faith with each of the individuals you selected above, and (most importantly) specify the following for each:

  • The actual date you will share the Gospel with each individual.

  • What time on that date that you will share the Gospel with each individual.

  • The location/place where you will share the Gospel with each individual.

III. SET YOUR GOAL: Be sure to make it measurable.

  • Ex: "I will share the Gospel with 1 of the individuals I selected once a week, for the next 5 weeks."

IV. MAKE 2 COMMITMENTS: This is where your make a commitment to yourself, and most importantly, to God.

  • Tell God that you desire to share His Gospel and ask for His help and guidance to do so.

  • TIP: Write your goal on a sticky note and put it in a place you will see each day to motivate you.

  • Memorize a Bible verse that will keep you focused on your commitment, especially when it may not be easy to keep it. One of my favorites is

"Commit your work to the LORD, and your paths will be established." - Proverbs 16:3

V. PRAY

Dedicate yourself to say the following prayer each morning when you wake up.

That means BEFORE you touch your phone, check you SM, and even get out of bed!

MORNING PRAYER: LORD, please make me aware of the opportunity that You have for me today to talk about Jesus and my faith in Him. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Pray the following prayer before you go to sleep each night.

That means AFTER you have put away any screens, distractions, etc. - pray the following:

EVENING PRAYER: LORD, thank You for choosing me to be Your disciple. For giving me the gift and responsibility of sharing my faith with others, possibly helping them find freedom and forgiveness in You.  I take this responsibility very seriously and thank You for the opportunities that You supplied me with today to speak about Your love and salvation! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

And that's it... 5 "ridiculously-easy" Steps to begin sharing your faith without fear, and helping to grow the kingdom of God right here, right now!

So GO SPEL it out, beloved, and I leave you with this final encouragement:

LG²: LET GO & LET GOD!

“I became a servant of this Gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of His power.” - Ephesians 3:7

We are called to plant the seed, but it is the LORD ALMIGHTY Who does the watering!

Finally, always remember: This is NOT about you.

This is NOT about the people you share your faith with.  This is ultimately and supremely about God and His life-saving, death-defying grace that is available to ALL people.

“This is good, and pleases God our Savior, Who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the Truth.” 1 Timothy 2:3-4

We as believers in Christ Jesus have received the undeserved gift of saving grace which gives us: victory over fear, evil, sin, and death; eternal life in the presence of God; peace that transcends all human understanding in the chaos and pain that this world imparts on us.

This gift of grace was NOT free! Jesus our LORD and Savior died an indescribable and agonizing death to make it available to you “at no cost”.

Think about it: if someone laid their own life down for you… and not only that, they saved yours - wouldn’t you want to find a way to repay them for their remarkable sacrifice?

Well, that’s just it - Jesus chose to be crucified for YOU.  It was for YOU that He laid down His life so you could gain yours!

And what does He ask in return? That we simply and freely acknowledge and accept Him as our Savior and the Son of God...

AND that we do the following:

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

In Jesus' Name, Amen (so be it!)

xoxo, Amy
